Saugerties AYSO Safe Haven....

AYSO is supported by more than 250,000 volunteers nation-wide. Parents donate their time as coaches, referees, team parents, administrators or sponsors. In 1998, AYSO unveiled its new Coach Certification and Safe Haven programs. Each was designed to strengthen the organization's role in child protection. Although AYSO is primarily a youth sports organization, it realizes the importance of providing a safe and healthy atmosphere for children. AYSO is continually working to improve the education of its volunteers in the fields of child development, human behavior, and sports psychology. A strong emphasis is placed on ethics and sportsmanship and the development of the whole child.

SAFE HAVEN
Safe Haven is a child and volunteer protection program that was the first of its kind in youth sports.

The child protection aspect is intended to stop child abuse, educate or remove its perpetrators, and screen out predators before they get into the program. It includes proactive steps which provide a medium for positive, healthy child development, precluding the outbreak of child abuse in a weak, unfocused, nonempowering environment.

Volunteer protection comes in to play as a result of volunteer training, certification and continuing education. The Volunteer Protection Act of 1997 provides certain legal protections for volunteers who have been trained and certified, and act in accordance with a written job description. Safe Haven has these three elements, giving volunteers the highest degree of protection available under the law.

Safe Haven Online Certification Program
Welcome to the AYSO Online Safe Have Certification Training Program.  This online training has been approved by the American Youth Soccer Organization and may be used by volunteers from any region to satisfy their Safe Haven Coach or Referee training requirements.  Volunteers can complete the training at their own convenience and in a fraction of the course time – feedback has been very positive.

This computer-based Safe Haven certification was developed by and is hosted by AYSO Region 36 of San Mateo, CA.The course is available at http://www.aysosm.org/safehaven/.  Accessed as simple web pages, no added software is required and a dialup internet connection is sufficient.  No usernames or passwords are required.

At the completion of the program, the volunteer may print a certificate similar to the sample shown here for their own records and will receive a confirming email with a link to their certificate.
