Saugerties AYSO Basic Technical Development

This time should be used to teach the children some of the fundamentals of the game. Chidren at this age are easily distracted, so you will want to do a quick teaching and then let the kids all take a try. Once they have given the skill a try, move on to another important fundamental. You should not try to drill these fundamentals in during one activity session. These children will play more than ten games this season. Imagine if you touched upon "throw-ins" with these children ten times. All would easily understand by the end of the year and all would be ready to move up to the next division in following years.

So once again...... Do Not try to drill in these techniques now. Just do a quick explanation, let the kids try it, then move on.

Some fundamental techniques to do each Sunday would be:
  • Throw-ins
  • Free Kicks
  • Dribbling
  • Passing
  • Receiving
  • Shooting
